Coastal decks take a hiding from salt air, UV and rain. The old coating breaks down, the timber goes grey, and the whole thing starts looking rough. I strip the old finish, sand back to clean timber, and apply a fresh coating.
I work with whatever's out there — hardwood, treated pine, merbau, spotted gum. Each species needs a different approach and product. Deck oil for a natural look, waterbased for more protection.
Timing matters with outdoor work. I pick a dry window, get it done in one run, and make sure the coating cures properly before you're back out there.
